Shizusan – The Making

Videos on the making of Shizusan Shophouse and bar showing the hardwork and multitude of people and processes that went into putting the restaurant together.

From the preliminary design stages to the final setting up of the bar and tables. A lot of hands are involved. Seen in this video are just some of the processes.

We see the welding of the light metal abacus staircases. The way the dim sum counter with its wooden strips mimicking mountains, in Chinese art, was made on site. The carpenters nailing the flowers on the medicine cabinets for the bar on the ground floor. With great strength, we see the men hoist the massively heavy half log onto its metal stand, that is finally used as a communal dining table at the end of the sushi bar.

Highlighted are the beautifully painted arches, inspired Asian water colour paintings, that were brought to life by the uber talented Shruti Gaonkar on site. Shruti also spent days painting numerous 8’ x 4’ plywood sheets offsite, which were latter installed as the ceiling on the ground floor, of the restaurant. The ceiling artwork drew inspiration from tryptic paintings of the three seasons.

All the cutting, welding, hammering, painting and hard labour is seen in this video. Also seen are the intricacies, the tinier details that make this restaurant what it is. The number of people involved at various stages during a project are multifold, it all comes together beautifully in this short video that tells a short story of how Shizusan Shophouse and Bar came into existence.
